Jamaica’s positivity rate over 40%; hospitalisations pass 400
Jamaica’s
positivity rate for the coronavirus has topped 40 per cent after the nation
confirmed 558 new cases over the past day.
The latest
infections were reported from 2,258 tests conducted and sees the island’s
positivity rate climb to 42.5 per cent, meaning there were four positive
results for every 10 samples tested for the period.
The country’s total
now stand at 35,896 cases.
There were also
three additional deaths related to the virus reported. They are a 46-year-old
female from St Catherine; a 33-year-old female from St Catherine and a 77-year-old
male from Westmoreland, pushing the total deaths to 536.
Recoveries
increased by 179, for a total of 16,309 while active cases climbed to 18,801.
Hospitalised cases
increased to 418, with 37 listed as critically ill while 65 are moderately ill.
