Just a few days before their able-bodied compatriots get their qualification process underway, Jamaica’s Paralympians competed at the Paralympic trials at National Stadium in Kingston yesterday.

Sherika Nesbeth had a best of 3.76m (+0.6m/s) in the women’s long jump, which came on her third jump, while Andre Taylor had a best of 4.66m (+1.1m/s) in the men’s long jump.

In the men’s 100m, T47, Shane Hudson was first in 11.68s (+0.8m/s), while Jonathan Ferguson was second in a time of 11.70s.

In the men’s 100m – T12, T13 – Isaiah Simms [T12], was first in 11.40s (+0.8m/s), Chadwick Campbell [T13] was second in 11.62s and Jason Brown [T12] was third in 11.83s.

Asoyson Campbell, the lone competitor in the T37 category in the men’s 100m, had a time of 16.03s (-3.7m/s), while Shane Hudson posted 52.56s in the men’s 400m T47.

Sylvia Grant had a best of 21.50m in the women’s discus throw, T57, Navard Griffiths had a best of 31.79m in the men’s javelin throw F57, Alphanso Cunningham had a best of 6.05m in the men’s shot put T53.

The composition of the team to the Paralympic Games in Tokyo in August is expected to be announced shortly.
