KINGSTON, Jamaica— More than 3.8 million coronavirus infections have been confirmed worldwide, with over 1.7 million people across 196 countries and territories having died. Majority of those infected have recovered.

Many countries have rolled out vaccine campaigns and started to inoculate citizens as economies struggle to recover.

 – Jamaica recorded 44 new positive COVID-19 cases yesterday and one death bringing the infection total to 49,712 and total deaths to 1,034.

—Up to 10,000 fans will be allowed at Tokyo Olympic events, organisers said on Monday, warning competition could move behind closed doors if infections surge.

The United States is the worst-affected country with 601,825 deaths from 33,541,997 cases. After the US, the hardest-hit countries are Brazil with 501,825 deaths from 17,927,928 cases, India with 388,135 deaths from 29,935,221 cases, Mexico with 231,187 deaths from 2,477,283 cases, and Peru with 190,425 deaths from 2,029,625 cases.
