Barnes, McLeod break meet 400m records at Velocity Fest 11
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Rising star Zandrian Barnes, of GC Foster College, created an upset at Saturday’s Velocity Fest 11 at the National Stadium running a meet record and personal best 45.69 seconds to win the men’s 400 metres.
Barnes, who is a relative newcomer to the sport, beat his previous personal best 45.99 seconds in February and went under the meet record 46.10 seconds.
Anthony Cox was second with a season’s best 45.84 seconds with World Championships finalist Demish Gaye third in 46.19 seconds.
Meanwhile, Olympic relay medallist Candice McLeod of Pelicans TC also broke the women’s meet record winning the 400m in 51.20 seconds, under the old 51.28 seconds.
Janieve Russell of MVP was second with a season’s best 51.96 seconds with Rhonda White third with her season’s best 52.26 seconds.
