There are not many roots-reggae harmony groups around these days. Certainly not in the mould of classic aggregations like The Mighty Diamonds and The Meditations.

Link & Chain, formed 36 years ago in the seaside town of Port Maria, St Mary, has kept the flame of Rastafari burning with Guide me Jah.

The song, released in January, is produced by Los Angeles-based Issachar Musik.

“It’s a great riddim, originally from The Cables’…What Kind of World. We just lend our voices to it and hope for similar success,” said Dwight Campbell, one of the quartet’s three original members.

Guide me Jah is expected to be one of the tracks from Link & Chain’s third album, scheduled for release this year. Their previous album, S T O P, came out in 1992.

Proteges of famed music producer Lawrence “Jack Ruby” Lindo, best known for producing Marcus Garvey by Burning Spear, Link & Chain was formed in 1986. Trevor Douglas and Paul Williams are the other original members, while Oniel Griffiths joined the the fold three years ago.

Campbell and his colleagues have kept busy in recent years, recording songs for Issachar Musik, as well as musician/producers Ian “Beezy” Coleman and Devon Bradshaw.

Songs like Ready and Don’t do That have helped keep the veteran group in the public eye. Campbell credits a disciplined work ethic for Link & Chain staying the course.

“Plans for us this year is to continue on the journey doing what we love to do…putting out new music on Issachar Musik label…and working with some great musicians who are putting the tracks together,” he said.
