St Ann cops making progress, says DSP
OCHO RIOS, St Ann — The police in St Ann have reported that they are making strides in locating and apprehending criminals who have been creating havoc in the parish.
Among the arrests made over the past month are individuals who have been robbing motorists by posing as lawmen.
In February, the parish’s Senior Superintendent of Police Dwight Powell expressed concern that the robberies committed by the men had resulted in a slight uptick in robberies at the start of the year. The men had been targeting drivers in the vicinity of Runaway Bay and Discovery Bay. There has been a reduction in these types of robberies since the culprits were taken into custody, said deputy superintendent of police in charge of crime in St Ann, Linton Bailey.
“We can recall that sometime ago some men travelling in a Toyota Axio motor car were accosting persons and robbing them. But we have managed to get the person whom we believe is the main player in custody and we have seen a total reduction in these reports,” Bailey told the monthly meeting of the St Ann Municipal Corporation on Thursday.
Also among those in custody are thieves who have targeted persons leaving financial institutions and, in recent times, establishments with slot machines.
