Leon Bailey posts emotional message after family members survive car crash
Jamaican international football star, Leon Bailey has posted an emotional message on social media after his family members survived a horrific car crash which left his world in ‘shambles’ just before the Reggae Boyz’ match against Suriname on Tuesday.
In the post made to his Instagram page on Friday, the Aston Villa star described the game day as one he’ll never forget as he recalled having to focus on the match even while his son, mother and the mother of his child were being treated at hospital following the crash.
“Just a few moments before the game, I received the most devastating phone call. I was informed that my family was in a horrific car crash. I cannot describe the thoughts that went through my mind. At that moment nothing else mattered but holding on to hope that they were still alive,” a part of his post read.
“Immediately I left camp to the hospital, which seemed like the longest car ride ever. By the Grace of God, they are here with us today and sustained no injuries,” it continued as he shared a photo of the wreckage from the accident. The Mercedes Benz motorcar the pair were travelling in was totalled.
Indicating that although Tuesday’s match was perhaps not his best showing, Bailey said it was a game played not only for country but for family.
“Despite all that was going on, they gave me their blessing to proceed with playing the match. It may not have been my best game, but I played for my family. I played for my country and that is what gave me the encouragement while my world was in shambles,” he shared.
Bailey went on to thank his fans for their well wishes during what has been a difficult period for his family and asked that they be kept in prayers even as they ask for privacy.
