Dancehall artiste Shizzle Sherlock admits that when it comes to genres of music he would try, soca would be last on his list.

But in a turn of events, he believes this may very well hand him the big break he has been looking for his entire career. The entertainer has recorded a soca single titled Wake Up and is looking to tap into the market of fun, frolic and fetes.

“I am a dancehall man, a dancing person. Mi woulda be one a di last person fi ever do a soca song. Mi shock mi self when me dweet because a dancehall, trap-dancehall mi say straight,” Sherlock told OBSERVER ONLINE.

According to Shizzle, artistes should not lock themselves in a box, but should instead focus on expansion.

“We affi do everything and gain other fans. Mi do da soca song here and it a work for me so far. If me gain ten more new fans, its worth it because that’s ten more than I had before.”

Wake Up is collaboration between the entertainer and US-based artiste Supnelse.

“I was in Atlanta for some shows and Supnelse and I linked up and did some work. We worked with Atlanta Landmark, who is a big producer over here when it comes to soca. He actually told us that we would sound great on a Carnival type track. He said it would be a great move as Carnival in the Caribbean is heating up now,” Sherlock said. “We tried it, put it out there and people are going crazy for it.”

Sherlock, who has dabbled in a number of genres over the years, says he believes this time, he has found a formula that will get him desired results.

“I want to be an artiste who is for everyone, for every culture and I think this song can do just that. Mi tun up mi talent inna soca and a show people say Shizzle Sherlock can do it all. Mi see weh the soca industry is all about. Mi see say it connect with people all over and a dat mi wah do as an artiste, connect with people,” he told OBSERVER ONLINE.

“Mi wah take me career to the next level and adding another audience to mi thing is the next big step,” he continued. “Mi a deliver properly and di way mi deal wid di soca, mi dweet different so even Jamaicans outside a di soca season ago like it. Dem nah go can help it.”

Wake Up is currently available for streaming on all digital platforms.

“Soca time a come up so now a di time fi a song like this. Mi just can’t wait till the Jamaican audience get a hold of it because this song ago run off the Carnival season,” Sherlock said.
