The essence of Minister Jean Fray
THE second album from gospel artiste Minister Jean Fray is scheduled for release this summer. Essence of God, title of the set, is co-produced by George “Brotha George” Wright and veteran musician Sydney Mills.
Glory, the New York-based singer’s first album, was released in December 2020. She said there has been “great improvement” since that project which marked her recording debut.
“I was a bit nervous in the studio the first time but with experience I’ve grown, especially when it comes to formulating the songs,” said Minister Fray.
Essence of God has 10 songs, all originals. Nine of them are written by the prolific Brotha George, himself a gospel artiste.
Mills, best known for his work with Steel Pulse, also worked with Minister Fray and Brotha George on Glory; so too bassist Leebert “Gibby” Morrison, another veteran musician whose many credits include recording with greats such as Peter Tosh and Jimmy Cliff.
Brotha George agrees that Minister Fray has improved considerably.
“You will hear it on songs like Redeemed, Oh I Love You Lord and It Not Easy. She put her heart into it,” he said.
Minister Jean Fray is originally from Trelawny. Glory heard her singing originals, with the exception being a cover of He Touched Me, written by Bill Gaither.
