All set for Gin ‘n’ Juice
Disc jocks Delano, Timmy from HMV, and Zachary Harding from Syndicate are billed as the illustrious cast of music connoisseurs for Gin ‘n’ Juice slated for Cherry Gardens Great House in St Andrew on July 2.
The event — which is celebrating its 28th anniversary — is billed as Jamaica’s best 90s house party for the summer. It is scheduled to kick off at 9:00 pm and will go up until 2:00 pm.
“Gin ‘n’ Juice undoubtedly brings back tons of memories and promises to do that and more as we relive the past and revive the future. It’s that kinda event that you see people you haven’t seen in a long while or that you [have] known from high school. It allows you to party back with people who you usually enjoy events with when your were 15 or 16 years old,” said Gregg Smith, one of the event’s promoters.
Smith explained that the DJs don’t normally talk on microphones at the party, but instead use music to add a level of energy and excitement to the event.
“The crowd doesn’t have to stop enjoying themselves to listen to the DJ drown them with personal anecdotes. Too much talking distracts from the event. So we try to not to use a microphone and instead use the musical selections from our DJs to drive the energy of the party,” he said.
“The first Gin ‘n’ Juice was held in 1994 at College Common which happens to be a exclusive neighbourhood across from The University of West Indies (UWI) were only professors and members of the UWI staff were allowed to live,” he added. “It was held at my friend Ronald Young’s house, who lived resided in neighbourhood at the time. His mother was the chef administrator at UWI. The event went really well and it was something to behold.”
The last staging was held in April.
