SAVANNA-LA-MAR, Westmoreland – Manning’s School is celebrating their ISSA Rural Area Under-14 football title after beating Glenmuir High 2-0 in the final played at the St Elizabeth Technical Sports Complex on Thursday.

The Savanna-la-Mar-based institution last won the competition in 1977.

The win over the Clarendon team was the school’s fourth football title — all in the junior age groups — as they ended the 2021-22 season on a high, after promising much earlier in the daCosta Cup competition.

Dainton Williams in the first half and Kajay Williams in the second half were the scorers for Manning’s, as they finished the season unbeaten, while handing Glenmuir High their first loss.

Apart from winning the Rural Under-14 in 1977, Manning’s also won the Galloway Cup that was contested by western Jamaica-based schools in the Under-16 age group, then took the ISSA Rural Area Under-16 title in 2003.

Both Manning’s School and Glenmuir High had qualified for the final after similar 4-3 penalty kick wins in the semi-finals earlier — Manning’s getting by Maldon High and Glenmuir High beating Vere Technical.

Manning’s had led Maldon 2-0 before the south St James school stormed back to earn a 3-3 draw and force penalties.

Manning’s had topped their first-round group as well as their quarter-final group.

They won all four games in the first round, scoring 22 goals and conceded none, then won two of their three games in the quarter-finals, scoring 10 goals and conceding two before allowing three from Maldon High.

Manning’s School, under the guidance of Everton Tomlinson, had gone all the way to the semi-finals in the daCosta Cup competition, before losing to the St Catherine-based Dinthill Technical.
