KINGSTON, Jamaica — Jamaica reported 185 new cases of COVID-19 and four fatalities on Friday, July 1, according to the latest statistics from the Ministry of Health and Wellness.

This pushed the total number of cases of the virus since the start of the pandemic to 143,097 and the death toll to 3,134.

Of the newly reported cases, there were 110 females and 75 males with ages ranging from 15 days to 92 years.

The cases were recorded in Kingston and St Andrew (51), St Catherine (41), Clarendon (four), St James (13), St Thomas (16), Westmoreland (eight), St Elizabeth (three), Trelawny (three), Manchester (eight), Hanover (three), Portland (15), St Mary (two) and St Ann (18).

Meanwhile, the latest fatalities are:

A 48-year-old man from Kingston & St Andrew, whose death was recorded in September 2021;

A 61-year-old man from Kingston & St Andrew, whose death was previously reported under investigation in September 2021;

A 74-year-old woman from St Catherine, whose death was recorded in June 2022; and

A 96-year-old man from Kingston and St Andrew, whose death was recorded in June 2022.

The country also recorded 56 new recoveries, bringing the total number of recoveries to 91,107.

The positivity rate for the latest round of testing was 20.1 per cent.

There are 100 people hospitalised, five of them critically ill.

There are 1,423 confirmed active cases on the island.
