CLARENDON, Jamaica — The National Works Agency (NWA) is advising motorists to exercise extreme caution at this time when using the main road from Mineral Heights to Lionel Town in Clarendon.

A section of the road embankment in the vicinity of the Vere Technical High School has failed, reducing the corridor to single-lane traffic.

Manager of Communication and Customer Services at the NWA, Stephen Shaw, says that the affected section measures over six metres wide and four metres deep and presents serious dangers to road users.

The corridor is known to carry heavy vehicles transporting aggregates. Operators of these units are being urged to be particularly cautious in using the road at this time.

The affected section of road has been cordoned off.

The NWA is requesting that members of the public do not attempt to remove any of the impediments that have been put down as a warning to motorists.

Shaw says that the NWA is carrying out investigations into the cause of the failure, especially as there is no known drainage system in the immediate area.
