AFTER a two-and-half year hiatus due to the novel coronavirus pandemic, Drenchhed foam and water party returned with an even greater momentum on Sunday.

“I’m actually very pleased with how the event turned out; it really surpassed my expectations. And everybody that came out, they genuinely enjoyed themselves and they had fun from start to finish so I’m really pleased about that and just really happy that everybody had a great time. That’s what I wanted,” event conceptualiser Chantele “DJ Nova” Roye told the Jamaica Observer.

The well-attended event was held at Roye’s Plaza in Junction St Elizabeth. As promised, there was an abundance of foam and water to complement the upbeat tempo music that was provided by Team Shella, A Team, Jhonny Kool, Crawbi, and DJ Nova.

Not even the scattered showers could dampen the mood. There was non-stop dancing until the party ended at approximately 1:00 am. VIP patrons were treated to food options and complimentary Drenchhed-branded coconuts, and the bars had every liquor option one could think of.

Adding that about 3,000 people turned out, DJ Nova said she prides herself in separating her event and brand from others.

“I actually don’t know any event that’s similar to Drenchhed because Drenchhed is just an overall exhilarating experience, and its in a league of its own. There’s no event that’s really similar to it in that way, especially right now in Jamaica, and when people come to the event the comments are always the same: ‘Oh my God, this party is so amazing!’ ‘This party is so great…I can’t believe I’ve never been to this party before’, or ‘I’m definitely coming back because this experience is just one in a million’, ‘Mi nuh get this anywhere else inna Jamaica’, ” she said.

DJ Nova, who is a disc jockey on Fyah 105 FM and who has another party series called ‘SuperNova Fridays’, says her family is very supportive of her ventures.

“My team is actually my family — my mother, my father and my sister. We are the team but I am at the forefront doing majority of the groundwork — promotional work and everything that really comes with it. On the day, all of us are doing our assigned tasks but for majority of the event — the conceptualisation and everything leading up to it — that was all me. But afterwards all of us took different roles and we just execute according to plan, and it always goes very smoothly,” she explained.

Meanwhile, patrons too had a whale of a time at Sunday’s bash. Police officer Oshane Campbell said it was the best event he had been to since the reopening of the entertainment industry.

“The energy is different. The water and foam definitely added a flair to the overall thing and I’ll definitely be back,” he told the Observer.

Accountant Shirley Bryson shared similar sentiments: “It’s a really great event and I’m happy to be here!”
