PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad (CMC) — Jamaica ended Guyana’s winning run, inflicting an 18-run defeat on them in Friday’s latest round of the Under-19 Rising Stars T20 Championship.

Playing at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy, Jamaica rallied to 115 for three from their 20 overs after being asked to bat first.

They suffered an uncertain start when Chrishana McKenzie perished cheaply for one in the second over, but Lena Scott top-scored with 43 from 56 deliveries and Kate Wilmott struck a run-a-ball 29 to rescue the innings.

Scott added 44 for the second wicket with Tasha-Gayle Gordon who made 12 before retiring hurt, leaving Wilmott to help extend the partnership by another 41 runs.

The right-handed Scott struck half-dozen fours before falling in the penultimate over while Wilmott counted two boundaries to be there at the end of the innings.

Chasing a revised target of 106 from 18 overs Guyana faltered to finish on 87 for four, as opener Naomi Barkoye top-scored with 27 from 44 deliveries with three fours.

Kimarie Campbell snatched two for seven from an outstanding three-over spell.

In the other game played at the Diego Martin Sports Complex, Windward Islands extended Leeward Islands’ misery with a crushing 122-run victory.

Sent in, Windwards were carried to an imposing 176 for eight from their 20 overs by Jannellia Glasgow who struck half-dozen fours in top-scoring with 38 from 30 balls, and Namiah Marcellin who punched 37 from 26 deliveries with seven fours.

The pair added 89 for the third wicket to follow up a 41-run opening stand between Crisa Smith (16) and Captain Zaida James (13).

Jahzara Claxton claimed three for 29 while Kimberly Anthony (2-15) and Gabrielle Harrylall (2-36) added two wickets apiece.

In reply, Claxton was the only one to reach double figures as Leewards collapsed for 35 all out inside 14 overs, with Glasgow (3-2) and Abini St Jean (3-7) destroying the innings.

Rain forced abandonment of the game between Barbados and USA Cricket.
