EUGENE, Oregon — Fedrick Dacres has won the race against injury to be ready for the men’s discus throw that starts on Sunday’s third day of the World Athletics Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.

Dacres missed the national championships held in Kingston three weeks ago after an adductor tear but told the Jamaica Observer on Monday during training in Oregon that while he has a few things to works out, he was almost fully fit and ready to go.

The 2019 World Championships silver medallist said: “I am ready to go, I have a bit of scar tissue to rub out but I am good to go for the most parts.”

He reported that he had suffered the injury during training but felt he had managed the injury enough to compete at the Diamond League in Rabat, Morocco, but made it worst and was sidelined for a while.

“I can’t say I am 100 per cent, but I am good enough…just to give a good account of myself and keep it simple, we are just legit giving a good account and whatever happens we will take it,” noted Dacres.

He admitted his rehabilitation took longer than expected.

“I think maybe we were doing things that we were not supposed to be doing like stressing the injury and that was major and it took a bit of time to get over that and we are ready to go again.”
