MONTEGO BAY, St James— Pastor Glen Samuels has been re-elected for a third consecutive time to lead the Western Jamaica Conference of Seventh-day Adventists.

During his remarks, the clergyman highlighted that the executive will be looking to spearhead a number of plans during their time leading the conference. One such plan is to seek to establish a centre to assist women going through a range of issues.

“I’d like to share with you that, at our first directors meeting, we looked at the issue of establishing a women’s crisis centre down in the building that used to house that home of the aged. We believe that we ought to provide a place for counselling and, if needs be, to hide for a short while from the scourge of domestic violence, a safe place where we can say to the single mothers and others, ‘We are here for you,’ ” he remarked.

He also spoke to continuing to support the hospital in the manner which they have been doing by providing the space needed to host a number of services, even as the Cornwall Regional Hospital continues its mega rehabilitation exercise that has been delayed for various reasons. He also related that they will be continuing their work in the youth intervention, something that is much needed at this moment in time.

Pastor Samuels expressed pride in members of his team.

“I stand proud of a team that the constituency has elected to carry God’s mission forward,” he told the gathering.

This mission, he notes, involves not only the members of the conference but would seek to help all the citizens living in western Jamaica.

“In the words of a good friend of mine, ours is the task to build better and stronger even as we build on the foundation laid by those who have gone before us. West Jamaica says to all of its citizens, ‘You have our prayers and you have our full support as we seek to lift and make this place called west Jamaica the best part of all of Jamaica as a place to do business, to grow families, to raise children and to find homes,” he said.
