Six-year-old grey horse Duke, from the stables of Gary Subratie, headlines a highly competitive field of six runners for the $1.5-m Thoroughbred Racing Hall of Fame Stakes Trophy feature, the main attraction on the 10-race programme at Caymanas Park today.

Duke, a very consistent runner, won the Supreme Ventures Limited 21st Anniversary Trophy over 5 ½ furlongs (1,100m) 21 days ago on June 22, beating Double Diva and God of Love by half-length in a smooth 1:05.2.

The Casual Track-Lady McBeth offspring should welcome this half-furlong (100m) extension, and although picking up 11lbs, Duke is in such good nick that he can stay off what is expected to be a torrid pace, and then strike in the final furlong.

Americans Lure of Lucy and Jordon Reign’s and fomer Jamaica Derby winner King Arthur should make the race very interesting.

The three-year-old and upward Open Allowance/Graded Stakes race over six furlongs (1,200m) is the seventh event on the day with a post time of 3:45 pm. First race is at noon.

Duke has been timely prepared by Subratie for this trophy race, and if all goes well this should be another win for him. On Sunday, July 10, Duke cantered nine furlongs (1,800m) and galloped the last three furlongs (600m) in 35.1 signalling his readiness for this assignment.

Lure of Lucy, trained by Jason DaCosta, won impressively at the Overnight Allowance in a time of 1:12.2 over six furlongs, the same distance as today’s encounter. Lure of Lucy, who is still on the improving side, is as fit as hands can make her, but she will need time to get accustomed to this new grouping. The four-year-old bay filly could be a very dangerous runnerhere.

The Ian Parsard-conditioned Jordon Reign’s defeated Lure of Lucy on last when racing over six and a half furlongs (1,300m) coming off a break. Jordon Reign’s although racing in this grade for the first time seems to be cut from special cloth and with only 109lb in his back, he will be a tough contender here.

King Arthur was a winner three starts back when travelling over today’s distance. King Arthur appears to have found his rhythm, and with the trip the same, he could be in the running for top honours.

Meanwhile, Big Jule returns from a five-month break to take on rivals in the annual renewal of the $1.1-m Reynold “Ren” Gonzalves Memorial Cup over nine furlongs and 25 yards. The race is for three year olds and upward horses at the Non-Restricted Overnight Allowance level.

The talented Big Jule was second to Excessive Force back on February 22, and now returns for his first racing assignment since then. Big Jule has a likeness for two turns and with the tongue tie fitted again is expected to give his best, especially after being well prepared. Best Daughter Ever and Miniature Man seem likely his only two threat here.

Best Daughter Ever is a lover of two-turn races. She is returning from a long break of 196 days, and for sure she will need time to refresh herself before winning is a consideration but is of talent and the task at hand is not beyond her.

Miniature Man finished a wandering second behind Eroy at the races on June 26. Miniature Man after a long break due to injuries and after four starts this season is yet to find his true self. This event provides an opportunity for him to regain lost favour, but he has gone up in the weights by 9lbs.
