#WorldChamps: McPherson, McLeod, Young advance to 400m Semis
EUGENE, Oregon – All three women that lined up to contest the heats of the 400 metres have advanced to the semifinals of the one lap event at the Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.
Stephanie-Ann McPherson, who finished fourth in the final of the event at the Tokyo Olympics last year, took command of heat two to win in a time of 50.15 seconds. McPherson advanced as the fastest qualifier.
Her compatriot and Jamaican national champion, Candice McLeod, who was drawn in lane one of heat six, eased up towards the line to settle for a second place finish in 50.76 seconds. The race was won by Anna Kietbasinska of Poland.
Meanwhile, Charokee Young, who is ranked at number two in the world this year, finished fourth in her respective heat in 51.84 seconds. She advanced as a non-automatic qualifier.
The sem-finals of the women’s 400 metres is scheduled for Wednesday, July 20 at 8:45pm Jamaica time.
