BIRMINGHAM, UK— Many time Jamaican champion, Christopher Binnie, will face England’s Adrian Waller in Sunday’s round of 16 in the men’s singles squash event at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, United Kingdom.

Binnie who had won his first round game on Friday had a walkover win on Saturday after India’s Ramit Tandon failed to show.

Jamaica is still to win its first medal after two days of the Games after competing in nine sporting disciplines on Saturday including sprint cycling and weight-lifting.

In the women’s 55Kg weightlifting, Sky Simone-Lea Norris finished sixth overall with a total of 170Kg after competing in the snatch and clean and jerk events.

Mackenzie Headley became the first swimmer to get past the first round of an event after she qualified for the semi-finals of the 50m freestyle with 25.95 seconds in her first round.

She was eighth in her semi-final in 25.97 seconds and failed to advance to the final.

Zaneta Alvaranga was eighth in her first round in 26.49 seconds and Kelsie Leigh Campbell also placed eighth in her heat in 27.03 seconds.

Kito Campbell was second in the men’s 100m breaststroke first round race in 1:05.04 seconds.

Meanwhile, Jamaica beat Zambia 4-1 in their badminton Group D of Mixed team group play after two losses on Friday.

The Rugby Sevens team has lost four straight games, beaten 40-0 by Uganda and 45-7 by England on Friday.

In cycling, Dahlia Palmer was 21st in the Women’s Sprint at the Lea Valley VeloPark; Malik Reid was eighth in the men’s Keirin and Daniel Palmer was sixth in his heat.
