ST JAMES, Jamaica- The over 160 students who attend the Goodwill Primary and Infant School in St James were recently the beneficiaries of back-to-school supplies courtesy of the school’s alumni foundation.

Among the items were laptop computers which were presented to the four top students who sat the Primary Exit Profile (PEP) this year.

According to Eddie Peters, part of the leadership cohort for the school’s alumni foundation, the laptops are expected to assist the students in furthering their studies.

“With the kids that are going on we gave them laptops that will help them to go on to [secondary] school to do more studying and more research and so they’ll be fine,” he told ONLINE OBSERVER.

Newton Wholas, another member of the cohort, pointed out that the computers would serve a very useful purpose.

“Looking at what COVID did to us, we’re not sure where it’s going to go because it’s still not yet over, so whatever we can do to assist the kids, we go the extra mile,” he remarked.

The foundation also provided the students with bags, pencils, erasers and other items to assist with their preparation for the new academic year.

“Since we formed the alumni association we decided that this is one of the best ways to assist those who are less fortunate or those who are having a little of a tough time and need to be pushed across the line,” Peters explained.

Principal Camille Hoarde expressed gratitude for the donation.

“It’s a very good feeling, we’re all elated, the entire school family is elated. We’re happy that the alumni have done this and our students are benefiting,” she remarked.

“Times are hard and some of our parents might find it difficult to source so many books and so this contribution will go a long way in ensuring that the students have the resources to at least come back to school in September.”
