Golden Wattle tries again at non-winners of four
A field of seven runners is lined up to compete in a three-year-old and upwards (non-winners of four) for local horses and a three and four-year-old (non-winners of three) for imported horses. The seven will race over 7 ½ furlongs (1,500m).
The Jamaica Observer’s Supreme Racing Guide takes a close look at each runner and their chances of winning.
1. PRETTY GIRL: (3 ch f by Deputy Glitters – Runaway Queen) – Won her second consecutive race when beating Minidewak and Babylike on August 7 at 5 ½ furlongs. Pretty Girl skips a class condition to compete here thereby reducing her chances of winning. She will have no issues with the distance with a placing on the board her best option.
2. GT BOY: (3 dkb g by Here Comes Ben – Rejected Slew) – Released the maiden tag over seven furlongs on August 6 and now finds himself in a non-four. GT Boy is a filler.
3. RUM PUNCHER: (3 ch g by Soul Warrior – Miss Angeline) – Rum Puncher moves up a grade with two wins to his credit from 11 starts. Will earn.
4. REGAL AND ROYAL: (4 b c by Soul Warrior – Wap) – A genuine non-four entry with a win on his last run (August 6). Then Regal and Royal won handily at seven furlongs when travelling seven furlongs. Regal and Royal is the oldest competitor among the seven starters as well as the most seasoned, with 24 races under his belt. Regal and Royal cannot be ignored.
5. GOLDEN WATTLE: (3 ch f by Lion Tamer – Golden Glory) – Champion two-year-old from last season, who is without a win this year from five starts. Golden Wattle finished fourth in the recent Jamaica Oaks over 10 furlongs after leading for most of the way. She should find these more manageable, and given her back class, Golden Wattle, a genuine non-winner of four, is presented with the best opportunity for a three-year-old victory. Plus, Golden Wattle has received a drop in the handicaps from 126 lb to 115 lb.
6. PERFECT BREW: (3 b g by Bern Identity – Moonlight Brew) – Finally came good on August 6 when winning the Independence Day Stakes over seven furlongs, significantly benefiting from the services of jockey Anthony Thomas. Perfect Brew while improving is in the non-winners of three category and has to put every hoof right to accomplish victory even with the uptick in form.
7. POWER RANKING: (3 b c by Casual Trick – Escandalosa) – Power Ranking, a non-winner of three races has an outsider’s chance of placing.
