Champions League draw promises exciting clashes
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Champions League draw was held on August 25 in Istanbul, Turkey, and provided some exciting ties.
Group A involves the lights of Ajax, last season’s Eredivisie champions; Liverpool, the English stalwarts; Italy’s Napoli and last year’s Scottish Premiership’s runner up, Rangers.
Portugal’s Porto and Spanish giants Atletico Madrid, are in group B, alongside Germany’s Bayer Leverkusen and Belgium’s Club Brugge.
Group C, however, boasts the German giants, Bayern Munich, Xavi‘s Barcelona, Italian giants Inter Milan and Czech Republic’s FC Viktoria Plzen.
Last season’s Europa League champions Eintract Frankfurt will play Spurs in their first group D Champions League match. Both are joined by Portugal’s Sporting Lisbon and France’s Marsielle.
Italian champions AC Milan are joined by 2021 Champion League’s winner Chelsea in Group E. Austria’s Salzburg and Croatia’s Dinamo Zagreb will also play in that group.
Group F has 14-time winners and last year’s champion’s Real Madrid and Germany’s RB Leipzig. Shaktar Donetsk and Scottish Champions, Celtic also join them.
Manchester City headline Group G and are joined by Spain’s Sevilla, Borussia Dortmund and FC Copenhagen.
Neymar’s Paris Saint Germain will play the ‘Old Lady’ Juventus in their first match in Group H and they are joined by Portugal’s Benfica and Isreal’s Maccabi Haifa.
The Champions’ League group stage is set to start September 6.
