Back-to-school advice from Lil Kish
As the new school year approaches, emerging artiste Lil Kish is encouraging her peers to remain focused on their academics with the song School Walk.
“As I said in the song, nothing but greatness is our mantra,” the 13-year-old Belair High School told the Jamaica Observer.
“Normally I write songs based on current events but this song was just a freestyle. I just want the listeners to have a positive vibe and just be happy,” she added.
School Walk was released on August 2, and is on the King Kish imprint.
The accompanying music video, which was shot at her school, has been gaining traction online, with the now signature ‘school walk’ dance move prominently featured. Directed by KAHINGA Films, the video is receiving great feedback and speaks to the viral sensation that it is.
“The video for me is all about having fun and promoting my new dance, School Walk. I really enjoyed shooting it and I’m glad people are liking it,” she said.
Face-to-face classes resumed in January this year after a year’s worth of virtual classes implemented by the Ministry of Education to alleviate the spread of the novel coronavirus. The new school year is expected to commence on September 5.
Lil Kish, whose given name is Tajana Gardner, launched her career in September 2020 with Corona. Since then, she has also released Living The Life Woman Violence, and Times Like These.
Her work is not without reward, as she recently received a recognition award from the Southern Regional Health Authority (SRHA) for invaluable contribution to the SRHA during the pandemic. Now, going forward, Lil Kish has plenty more in the pipeline and invites listeners to stay tuned.
“For this coming school year, I just want to say I’m going to hold my bag and do the school walk with confidence,” she said.
