Cornwall College target 12th-straight Jackson Shield
CORNWALL College will be going after a 12th-straight hold on the Jackson Shield when they take on long-time rivals Munro College in Montego Bay today as the teams rev up preparations for next weekend’s start of the schoolboy football competition.
Traditionally, there are two games — the current daCosta Cup teams play the first game, followed by the over-35 teams. The aggregate scores are used to determine the winners of the Jackson Shield, named after a former Cornwall College principal.
The venue is alternated each year and Cornwall College won the encounter between the daCosta Cup sides last year while the “Masters” teams played out a draw.
This year both former champions will be hoping to make an impact on the competition after making it past the first round last year.
Cornwall College will play in Zone A when the schoolboy competition kicks off on September 10 while Munro College will play in Zone E. The schoolboy football competition will return to a full schedule after last year’s truncated season, the first since 2019 after the novel cornavirus pandemic that shut down sports on the island.
