Sandz back-to-school treat, a success
With at least 500 students receiving care packages last Sunday at the Pembroke Hall Community Centre in St Andrew, the Sandz Caribbean Music Festival Foundation can officially confirm that their back-to-school initiative was a resounding success.
The Supreme team, who are connected heavily to Pembroke Hall and surrounding communities, saw the treat as a fitting opportunity to help struggling families get ready for the start of the school year, while also giving children a little fun.
“The charity was a huge success by all standards. The team was able to treat children to school supplies as well as a little fun with bounce-abouts, a spelling competition, mathematics competition and races, with great prizes. We have to give a special shout-out to our friend Dean Onfroy from Fierce By Dre who gave free haircuts as part of the day’s offerings as well,” said Joleine Longman, coordinator of Supreme team.
The smiles on the children’s faces while receiving the packages were payment enough for the Supreme team’s effort at Sunday’s charity event.
“We are used to creating amazing party experiences for fans of Caribbean music here in Jamaica and other large cities around the world with our Sandz Music Festival, multiple times every year. We enjoy giving back to our community just as much and so we look forward to many more amazing initiatives for the Sandz Foundation,” said Carlton Davy, chairman of Supreme team.
Prior to last Sunday’s treat, the Sandz Foundation partnered with the Kingston & St Andrew Municipal Corporation treating children from the Papine Children’s Home which had burned down, and last year for pandemic relief the foundation gave out care packages to needy families at the Pembroke Hall Community Centre. Now with school supplies distributed to 500 families, the team can look at its next charity event for the Christmas season.
The Supreme team is also gearing up to kick-off the 2023 season with the flagship All-White New Year’s Day staging of the Sandz Caribbean Music Festival.
