ST ELIZABETH, Jamaica – Five-time champions St Elizabeth Technical High (STETHS) and Petersfield High will both be gunning for back-to-back wins today as the ISSA daCosta Cup football competition continues with 13 games across five zones.

Both STETHS and Petersfield High had scored wins on Saturday’s opening day and will face Lacovia High and Grange Hill respectively today as they seek to extend their winning starts.

Cornwall College, St James High and Herbert Morrison Technical, all former champions, are hosting games in Montego Bay today as 10 schools in Zones A and C make their seasonal debuts.

STETHS are unbeaten in their last nine games against close neighbours Lacovia High after being upset in the first round in the 2016 season. STETHS, after their 4-0 opening win over Sydney Pagon on Saturday, will be confident they can maintain their dominance over them.

Petersfield High just failed to qualify for the second round last season and got off to a good start which they hope to carry over against Grange Hill today.

Grange Hill will hope they don’t replicate their performance against Mannings School on Saturday, where they conceded five goals, if they are to challenge Petersfield.

In Zone A, Cornwall College will open their quest for a 13th title when they play a Maldon High team that failed to score in all seven games played last season.

Maldon High will take a 14-game losing skid into today’s game, dating back to the 2019 season. Maldon conceded 23 goals last season and 42 goals since their last win and will face a Cornwall College team eager to get their season started after a solid pre-season where they lost just two games.

St James High could have a tough game on their hands against an improving Irwin High team while Herbert Morrison Technical is hoping for a winning start after moving back to Zone C after playing in Zone A last season.

Green Pond High are also back to Zone A after being moved to Zone B last year and will face Anchovy High who are returning to the competition after sitting out last season.
