John Legend’s Legend makes debut

Legend, the eighth studio album by American singer John Legend, makes its debut on the Billboard 200 albums chart at number 59.

The album features the track Speak in Tongues, a collaboration with Jamaican singer Jada Kingdom.

Legend, which also has collaborations with Muni Long, Rick Ross, Jhene Aiko and Jazmine Sullivan, opened at 10 on the Top R&B Albums chart and at number 32 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. It debuts at number 18 on the Top Album Sales chart.

Legend was released September 9 via Republic Records.

This is not the first time that a John Legend album features a Jamaican artiste. His 2020 Grammy-winning album Bigger Love saw him collaborating with Koffee on the track Don’t Walk Away. It was produced by Stephen “Di Genius” McGregor.

On the streaming and sales-driven Billboard Reggae Albums chart, Bob Marley and the Wailers have lost their grip on the number one spot, as Legend falls to number two.

Legend, which had been on top for 140 weeks, made way for a new chart-topper, Wisdom by American reggae act Stick Figure.

Wisdom sold more than 9,600 units in pure album sales to earn its fourth number one title. The group’s previous number ones were World on Fire, Set in Stone and Burial Ground.

Wisdom — which features collaborations with Barrington Levy, Collie Buddz and fellow Californian band Slightly Stoopid — was released September 9 by Ruffwood Records.

Wisdom is also making its presence felt on other Billboard charts. It opens at 51 on the Billboard 200 Albums chart, number seven on Top Album Sales, number seven on Top Current Album Sales and six on Independent Albums.

Best of Shaggy: The Boombastic Collection falls to three, while Greatest Hits by UB40 is four, and World on Fire by Stick Figure is five.

Sean Paul’s Dutty Classics Collection backtracks from three to six, while Set in Stone by Stick Figure slips to seven.

Dutty Rock by Sean Paul re-enters at eight, while Gifted by Koffee and Gold by Bob Marley and the Wailers are nine and 10, respectively.

On Billboard‘s Rhythmic Top 40 chart, Sean Kingston debuts at number 39 with Ocean Drive featuring Chris Brown.

On the South Florida Reggae chart, Reverse the Curse by Richie Stephens takes over the number one spot.

Don’t Do it by Hopeton Lindo, Marcia Griffiths and Freddie McGregor moves up from four to two, while Playing Games by Terry Linen bolts from 16 to 13.

Guaranteed by Christopher Martin debuts at 22.

On the Foundation Radio Network New York Reggae chart, Collie Weed by the ATF Band is the new number one.

For Tonight by D Major moves from 22 to 19, while Everytime by Slashe formerly known as Ice Man, improves from 27 to 24.

New entries are Robert Ffrench’s Every Day of My Life at 29 and Save The Children by Hezron at 30.
