Who is the JCSA representing?
Dear Editor,
Members of the Jamaica Civil Service Association (JCSA) are now wondering who the delegates have been representing or negotiating for.
With several communications suggesting member satisfaction or acceptance looming, I am left to wonder if the union has forgotten its primary role. With so many civil servants being asked to accept a position which would not be equitable or balanced with the rapid increases over the last year, is the union delusional?
It must be highlighted that over the past decades civil servants have been asked to accept 80 per cent of market-level salaries but asked to pay 100 per cent market duties. And if this were not enough, memorandums of understanding (MOUs) and wage freezes have been the icing on the cake.
With the hard work and sacrifice of past members and leadership to gain some sort of dignity through benefits, why is our current leadership in a rush to throw that all away? The last meeting (which are few) with the current President O’Neil W Grant seems to be a “shuv dung yuh throat” movie. This begs the question: Who is he representing, the union or the Government?
A number of members are considering cancelling their membership as a sign of dissatisfaction. It is full time the members take a stand against mediocre representation.
