NASHORDO Gibbs copped his second brace of the season as his Kingston College (KC) team overran a meek Ardenne High team 9-0 to make it six wins in a row in the ISSA/Digicel Manning Cup competition at the Stadium East Field on Friday.

Gibbs, who came off the bench to score a double against Calabar on the opening day of the season, had not scored another goal until Friday despite featuring in all his side’s matches to date.

He took full advantage of the opportunity to start on Friday by scoring the first goal of the afternoon and also the first goal of the second half.

Gibbs opened the scoring in the 11th minute and then got his second in the 52nd minute.

“It was an overwhelming feeling. I played in every other game since the Calabar game — the opening game of the season — and I haven’t found the back of the net since then so it was a wonderful feeling coming out here and scoring two goals,” he said after the match.

Gibbs and a few other players had been given the opportunity to start ahead of some of the regular starters, but despite not beginning with their strongest eleven KC were able to maintain a high level of football.

“The team performance was wonderful. We didn’t get ahead of ourselves…the ball game was pretty — putting down the ball, possessing the football — and we looked good,” Gibbs said.

KC’s unbeaten start to the campaign does not come as a surprise to the striker who came into the season expecting as much.

“It was something that I was expecting coming into the season so it’s normal,” he disclosed.

Most of the players in the KC team are playing at this level for the first time and Gibbs believes their progression is exactly where it needs to be at this point in the season.

“We are at a good place from preseason to now but I know we can do better, but we are taking it game by game and training session by training session.”

Despite being left on the bench for 80 minutes Dujuan Richards was still able to make an impact on the game, scoring a three-minute brace, by notching his first in the 89th minute and his second in the 90+2 minute to take his tally to 12 for the season.

KC’s next assignment will be a rearranged fixture against Waterford High school at the Stadium East Field starting at 3:30 pm.
