Stars on parade in St Mary T20 Blast
Division One teams Days Mountain and Port Maria clash in the feature match of the Sandals and Costley Construction St Mary T20 Blast at Boscobel Oval today, starting at 1:30 pm.
In the Division Two opening encounter at 9: 30 am, Highgate — fresh off a dominating performance last week — will tackle United All-Stars who are looking to bounce back from an opening week defeat.
All eyes will be on Days Mountain and Port Maria, however, as both teams feature a number of explosive cricketers.
Days Mountain will be skippered by the experienced Samuel McIntosh and will include the likes of talented all-rounder Renar Ross, and national Under-17 player Marlon Williams who is expected to be one of the bright spots in the competition.
Port Maria’s assault will be paced by former West Indies Under-19 skipper Andre Creary, Carlos Brown, St Mary parish player Javon Nembhard, Ronville Brown; Sekue Dixon, Kingston Wharves Under-15 MVP Jevaughney Shim. Jamaica Scorpions wicketkeeper Aldane Thomas will also join the team when he returns from national duties.
Based on recent history Days Mountain should start favourites, but it appears this could be Port Maria’s year as they possess a well-balanced team capable of upsetting the applecart.
In the opening match, Highgate will be looking to Paul Phipps, Johnaigne Standford, Okeith Broderick, skipper Gihon Murdock and Shanar Douse, while United All-Stars will be banking on Howane Hoilette, Joseph Daley, Devonte Miller, and national Under-15 player Tedain Noyan.
Tournament Director Wain Lynch says he is looking forward to a keen set of matches and is encouraging cricket fans across the parish to turn out in their numbers and support the teams.
