Dear Editor,

I am not persuaded that the president of Zimbabwe Emmerson Mnangagwa is capable of taking it out of the doldrums, and I am deeply traumatised and still wondering at the silence and inactivity of the Western countries, in terms of extending their hand to help Zimbabwe before a complete and total collapse occurs with the attendant spillover effects on neighbouring countries.

We thought Zimbabwe was going to be better after Mnangagwa was inaugurated as president. But many Zimbabweans have lost hope in their own nation and hence South Africa cannot breathe properly because of the influx of Zimbabweans running away from Mnangagwa’s mess.

The law seems to only apply to the Opposition, not the ruling party. Zimbabweans have resorted to leaving for foreign lands where they can at least experience freedom of speech because Zimbabwe is inhabitable as long as Mnangagwa and the Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front (ZANU-PF) Government are at the helm.

President Mnangagwa has failed Zimbabweans, the southern African region, and South Africa in particular as that country is under pressure from dealing with Zimbabwean migrant issues.

President Mnangagwa should resign.
