LLANDILO, Westmoreland — Manning’s School and Manchester High can secure their places in the semi-finals of the ISSA daCosta Cup football competition this afternoon with wins over Frome Technical and William Knibb Memorial, respectively, when they meet in the second games of the quarter-final round.

Manning’s School and Manchester High are sitting atop Group B on three points each after winning their opening quarter-final games on Wednesday and another win today would ensure safe passage to the final four.

Manning’s School will meet Frome Technical in an all-Westmoreland clash at Llandilo Sports Complex, while Manchester High meets William Knibb Memorial at St Elizabeth Technical in Santa Cruz.

Meanwhile, Clarendon College and Edwin Allen High, both coming off wins on Wednesday, will clash in a Group A game at Brooks Park in Mandeville that could be the feature of the round with the winner almost certain to get to the semi-finals.

The top-two schools in each of the groups will advance to the semi-finals of the daCosta Cup and also qualify for the all-island knock-out along with the semi-finalists from the Manning Cup competition.

Today, Frome Technical and William Knibb Memorial will be desperate to resurrect their fast fading semi-final hopes after both lost their last two games, both by 4-0 margins and their hopes are now hanging by a thread.

Frome Technical face the daunting task of ending Manning’s School’s season-long unbeaten run when they meet at Llandilo.

Manning’s School have given up just one goal in their last four games and have one of the most potent strike forces led by Jhamaleek Porter and Shamar Hamilton.

The Frome Technical team will hope Stevaughn Spence, Akeem Kangol and Dwayne Watt will be able to rediscover their scoring touch today.

William Knibb will also hope Mark Lewis will also get back to his prolific scoring form when they meet Manchester High as the Trelawny school has gone from feast to famine in goals since the end of the first round when they scored 49 goals, 37 coming in four games against Herbert Morrison Technical and Muschett High.

Since then, William Knibb have scored just three goals in their last six games and face a Manchester High team that has grown in confidence as the competition has progressed.

The Brooks Park game will attract most attention as the two Clarendon schools meet for the first time since last season when they were drawn in the same first round group.

Edwin Allen are coming off a big confidence boosting win over Dinthill Technical on Wednesday but face a Clarendon College team that has dropped points only once this season and are on a six games winning run.

Central defender Kimolar Fearon has scored in his last three games for Edwin Allen but coach Tafari Burton will be hoping that someone else, maybe Clayton Peck or Tajay Thomas will rise to the occasion.

At least six players have scored for Clarendon College this season but Christopher Hull, Malachi Douglas and Devonti Hodges have been consistent as the season has gone on and are expected to lead the team today.

In another game, Dinthill Technical and Central High, both losers on Wednesday, will meet at Foga Road and will hope to get back to winning ways.

Dinthill Technical were losing for only the second time this season and in the first instance had rebounded with back-to-back big wins.
