Honorebel to Go Harder in 2023
Anyone familiar with the South Florida music scene has likely crossed paths with Honorebel, the versatile singjay who has forged a solid solo career and collaborated with major rap acts such as Pitbull.
While he has some ambitious music projects for 2023, Honorebel is branching out into television with Bruk di Plate, a mini-series he wrote, directed and produced. No release date has been confirmed, but the St Andrew-born artiste told the Jamaica Observer it will definitely be this year.
“It is based on five childhood friends that were in a gang together, changed their lifestyle and got separated. Now they’re adults, reunited and about to go on a diamond robbery. The cinematography will be done by my business partner and brother Shadrac Milhomme whom I’ve been working with for over 20 years now,” said Honorebel.
He added that filming, and being on the set of countless music videos, spiked his interest in film-making. Being around his close friend Cess Silvera, director of the movie Shottas, also gave Honorebel an insight into that industry.
Music, however, will keep him busiest for the first quarter of 2023. He is scheduled to appear alongside Big Mountain and Groove Galore Muzik on closing night of the January 20-21 Rebel Salute in Priory, St Ann.
The trio covered Beres Hammond’s If Only I Knew last year.
“I have a new riddim-driven project co-produced by me and Jon Fx entitled Bedroom Music. Artistes on it include Tory Lanez, Spiky, Don Yute, Edley Shine, and Julie Elody. The next project is Go Harder, a song and music video which features Corea Marshae which I co-produced with Brandon Finale,” said Honorebel, who also plans to release 444, his ninth album, by March.
Honorebel has made a name in Europe and Africa with a mix of dancehall and electronic dance songs. His biggest commercial success was with Pitbull, one of contemporary hip hop’s top acts.
Now You See It (Shake That Ass), their collaboration with house music trio Jump Smokers, made Billboard dance charts in 2010. Guru, Honorebel’s previous album, was released last summer.
