IT is every weed man’s nightmare, that untimely visit by the police looking to make an arrest for illegal sale of ganja.

Time Like This, singer Itimo’s latest song, looks at an issue that has resulted in many confrontations. Produced by Issachar Muzik, it was released in December.

The Ocho Rios-based artiste can identify with those standoffs. His grandmother sold ganja back in the day and encountered law enforcement on occasion.

But it was the song’s One Drop feel that got his creative juices flowing.

“The song was inspired when [musician] Carlton Sharpe sent me the riddim and i was vibesing to it. He played all the instruments and also mixed the song. Delroy Pottinger mastered it,” said Itimo.

Although he recorded his first song at age 15, Itimo has not released a flood of singles. The last five years has seen his output increase with tracks like On the Alert and Love my Style hitting the market.

Although Time Like This bears the roots-reggae sound he favours, Itimo has never limited his music.

“My biggest influences are Bob Marley and Michael Rose, but I also like Brian McKnight and Alicia Keys. I wouldn’t say I’m just a reggae artiste, you have to change with the times,” he said.

Time Like This is also the latest release from Issachar Muzik, which is based in Los Angeles. That independent company has worked with acts such as Link & Chain, Mary Isaacs, and General Jah Mikey.
