In the Americas
• Life expectancy has increased 20 years in half a century. Society and technology have advanced faster than the life of a single person or a generation.
• Today, six generations are alive at the same time; and they will follow different life trajectories.
• The achievement of universal health is today affected by complexities and particular challenges accentuated by the different life trajectories of people.
• The health sciences and public health practice have had to and will continue to evolve to achieve universal health in a world with ever-changing needs, challenges, and possibilities.
• Between 1995-2019, life expectancy increased from 72 to 77 years in the region. In a few decades, there will be more people older than boys and girls in the world.
• A quarter of those who live over 80 will live in poor health.
