Arnett Gardens cut Mt Pleasant FA’s JPL lead
ST CATHERINE, Jamaica- Arnett Gardens have cut Mt Pleasant FA’s lead in the Jamaica Premier League to two points after beating Portmore United 2-1 at Ferdie Neita Park in Portmore, St Catherine on Sunday.
It was Arnett Gardens’ first win over Portmore this season after they had drawn 1-1 in the first round and it saw them improve to 30 points from 15 games, just two behind Mt Pleasant who played out a 0-0 draw against defending champions Harbour View at Drax Hall, St Ann— the first time they were dropping points at home.
Shai Smith maintained his good scoring run when he put Arnett in the lead in the first half before Emelio Rousseau pulled Portmore level in the 51st minute but Marlon Allen scored the winner for Arnett in the 64th minute to extend their winning run to four games.
Humble Lion are in third place on 27 points after they beat Molynes United 2-1 at Effortville to avenge their 3-2 loss in the first round.
Javon Smith in the 10th minute and Gregory Lewis in the 50th minute, scored for Humble Lion after Jermy Nelson had equalised for Molynes United in the 25th minute.
Stephen Barnett scored a double for Dunbeholden FC who snapped a three-game losing skid with an action packed 3-2 win over Faulkland FC in the first game of the double-header at Drax Hall.
Faulkland FC cut the deficit to one goal twice but were not able to close the gap after drawing their previous two games.
Barnett opened the scoring in the 17th minute and were gifted a second goal in the 22nd minute when Michael McLeod scored an own goal.
Rondell Thomas pulled a goal back in the 61st minute but Barnett got his second just three minutes later to make the score 3-1 in the 64th minute.
Faulkland FC continued to fight and got a second goal when Val Armstrong converted a penalty in the 72nd minute.
Dunbeholden were also awarded a penalty in the 78th minute but Faulkland’s goalkeeper David Swaby saved the kick.
Rohan Brown however killed off the game as a contest when he scored Dunbeholden’s fourth goal in the 83rd minute.
Waterhouse FC avenged their first round loss to Montego Bay United with a 3-0 win, Denardo Thomas scored in the fifth minute, Kenroy Howell made it 2-0 in the 44th before Ramone Howell scored the third in the 89th minute.
