Singer Kranium has parted ways with Atlantic Records after eight years.

The artiste, best known for the gold-certified hit song Nobody Has to Know, said the split was amicable.

“It was good working with them because at the end of the day being a dancehall artiste signed to a major [label] is mostly a learning experience for both,” Kranium disclosed in an interview with the Jamaica Observer on Thursday.

He continued, “We mutually parted ways because I felt like we did some amazing things back in 2019. I re-signed to Atlantic and this time around we both agreed on moving onto our separate ways.”

In an e-mail to this writer, Craig Kallman, chairman and CEO of Atlantic Records, confirmed that Kranium was no longer with the entity.

“Yes, [this is] confirmed,” said Kallman.

Kranium shared achievements of his association with the label which has had success with Jamaican acts like Sean Paul.

“The highlight, for me, is having my certified gold/platinum records in the main markets for dancehall. We achieved a lot of things, especially selling gold in the main markets, but the things I’ve learnt in this business is the biggest accomplishment to me,” he pointed out.

Kranium said he is discussing possible moves to another label, but has advice for artistes who are considering signing with the ‘majors’.

“Always remember, labels are like a bank, and most importantly it is an outlet, so always start the sparks and then have them pour the gas,” he said.

His next single, Mona Lisa, is scheduled for release shortly.

Kranium signed to Atlantic Records in 2015. His association with the company stemmed from the success of Nobody Has to Know, which charted on Billboard’s R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay Chart.

Shortly after signing with the label, Kranium told Billboard Magazine that, “My signing is a good look for dancehall, which should be bigger than it is. I am motivated to take dancehall to another level and extremely happy to be a part of the Atlantic family because of the support they’ve given to reggae.”

Kallman has signed several reggae and dancehall acts to Atlantic Records, including singer Wayne Wonder, deejay Elephant Man, and Grammy Award winner Sean Paul whose multi-platinum albums Dutty Rock and The Trinity were distributed by the company.

While with Atlantic Records Kranium released three studio albums and an EP. His last project, In Too Deep, was released last year.

His hits also include the gold-certified singles Can’t Believe (with Ty Dolla $ign and Wizkid), and We Can with Tory Lanez.
