SRC records earthquakes in several Caribbean countries
PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad (CMC) – Caribbean countries continue to be rattled by earthquakes over the past 48 hours with the Trinidad-based Seismic Research Centre (SRC) of the University of the West Indies (UWI) noting that the latest tremor occurred on Monday night.
According to the SRC, the quake with a magnitude of 4.1 occurred at 8.47 pm (local time) and was felt 75 kilometres west in San Fernando, east of Port of Spain, as well as 81 kilometres southwest and 103 kilometres southwest of Arima.
The earthquake had a depth of 10 kilometres. There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries as a result.
The SRC also reported that at 9:27 pm on Sunday night, an earthquake with a magnitude 3.9 rattled Antigua and Barbuda, St Kitts-Nevis and the French island of Guadeloupe.
It said that the quake, at a depth 10 kilometres, was felt 110 kilometres north, northwest of St John’s in Antigua, 113 kilometres northeast of Basseterre, St Kitts-Nevis and 212 kilometres, north, northwest of Point-à-Pitre, Guadeloupe.
