Emperorofthecats rules ’em all in Caymanas feature
Emperorofthecats — the Carl Anderson-bred, owned, and trained four-year-old bay gelding — confirmed his status as a horse of significant note following an impressive win at the $1.29-million top-rated Open Allowance contest, the main attraction on the 10-race card at Caymanas Park on Saturday.
Bred by Emperor Hall–Laws of the Cat, Emperorofthecats, who was running at the level for the first time, easily defeated rivals by two lengths in the three-year-old and upward race over the minimum trip of five furlongs (1,000m) on the round course.
Wasn’t the best to leave the starting gates at the break, but the much-improved Ramon Nepare, doing riding honours for the first time, got Emperorofthecats in a good position going into the half-mile (800m) in third place behind Yellowstone (Anthony Thomas) and God of Love (Dane Dawkins).
Emperorofthecats continued to navigate the turn well behind the leaders before producing an electrifying run in deep stretch to steal the march on rivals, registering his second consecutive win from three starts this season. Nuclear Noon (Tevin Foster) came on the scene late for second place ahead of God of Love in third.
Yellowstone had finished in third place, but the chestnut gelding was disqualified and placed out of the frame for causing interference and intimidation during the running of the race.
After splits of 23.0 x 45.3, the final time was recorded at 59.4.
Meanwhile, a brilliant ride from Tevin Foster saw the Richard Azan-trained Scooby capturing the $750,000 Grooms’ Association of Jamaica Trophy feature over five furlongs straight.
Scooby won the race by a length and quarter ahead of Posing Already (Dane Dawkins) and Rambling Rose (Youville Pinnock) in a time of 1:00.3.
Foster then booted home Blue Sky for trainer Michael Marlowe in the 10th and final event for his double.
Also with two winners on the day was jockey Andre Powell, who won aboard Magical Mood for trainer Keffin Murray in the fourth race, and Lord Burkington for trainer Gary Subratie in the sixth race.
Racing continues next Saturday.
