H2OURS edge RGD in domino league

IN what was a truly thrilling contest, H2OURS Purified Water eked out a 150–147 win over Registrar General’s Department (RGD) in the opening game of the inaugural 2023 Winners Corporate Domino League at Mystix Sports Bar and Lounge on Wednesday.

Both H2OURS Purified Water and RGD started the match well as neither team was willing to risk anything early. The first half was highly contested as the match tied 15 times during that period, with the score at the break being H2OURS Purified Water at 76 and RGD just a point behind on 75.

The tempo was expected to pick up on the resumption, and so it did. H2OURS Purified Water’s Captain Collin Powell and RGD’s Captain Mario Reynolds did make some successful changes in the second half, but neither team was willing to give up.

H2OURS Purified Water picked up three points for the one-way rule, with RGD keeping pace with four points that saw the match tied on points 14 times during the half. However, the crucial point of the game came when H2OURS Purified Water slapped a six-love on the opponents to take away the game.

RGD did try to get back in the game by winning three derby (two-point) games, but H2OURS Purified Water countered with two derby games to hold on to the lead in the end, winning the game by a hard-won three points.

A total of 16 teams will be taking part in the competition. They are divided into four groups of four teams each, which are expected to compete for approximately eight weeks. The teams will be competing for cash, trophies, and medals, among other prizes.

All matches will be played on a home-and-away basis. Matches will be played to a score of 150 points. The top two teams on points at the end of the group stage will advance to the quarter-finals (knockout stage). All teams must arrive early for their matches, which have a start time of 6:30 pm and are a mental competition. No coding (cheating) or indiscipline will be tolerated, as the referee’s decision is final.

GROUP A – Covenant Insurance Brokers, Digicel Group, National Commercial Bank, and Technical Services Division (Jamaica Constabulary Force)

GROUP B – H2Ours Purified Water, RGD, Correctional Services, and Mystix Sports Bar and Lounge

GROUP C – KSAMC, Top View Liquor and Variety Store, Container Enterprise, and RJRGLEANER Group

GROUP D – Chas E Ramson, Crystal Network Solutions, MCQT Constructions, and Sagicor Bank.
