Start to Tier II competition pushed back by a week
THE start of the Jamaica Football Federation’s Tier II competition has been pushed back a week from today and will start next weekend, the organisers said.
The competition, which will see the top two teams being promoted to the Jamaica Premier League next season, was scheduled to kick off today with seven games but the organisers said in a release that the delay was caused by the lack of readiness of some clubs.
“This delay is due mainly to some clubs not completing their registration on the JFF Connect platform, in addition to the non-submission of registration forms (signed and stamped by the respective FA),” the release said. “We note that some medical certificates are also outstanding,” it added.
The clubs were given another deadline to make sure they are fully compliant, the organisers said, “Clubs that have not submitted their registration must complete and submit to the JFF Competitions Department at latest Friday, 14 April, at 5:00 pm. Failure to do so will result in disqualification from the competition.”
Among the 14 teams taking part in the Tier II competition are Racing United of St Catherine and Brown’s Town FC of St Ann, who qualified through the recent Tier II play-off series.
The other clubs are Treasure Beach FC and Falmouth FC who were semi-finalists last season; Meadforest FC, Albion Mountain, Hopewell United FC, Tru-Juice FC, Downs YC, Portlanders FC, Lime Hall Academy, Wadada United FC, Baptist Alliance SC and Reno FC.
