King Jazzy looks beyond Spoil You

In late 2022 recording artiste King Jazzy began making waves on social media with the track Spoil You. With this momentum, he and producer Ricky Bless founded the Coalition DJs Jamaica to help promote more dancehall songs.

“It was doing really well in Jamaica independently. I produce, write, [and] oversee the video. With promotion, I have a team, but it’s mostly me; so sometimes it’s hard to navigate even though it was doing well…

The Jamaican chapter of the Coalition started in December 2022.

“Me and Ricky started the Coalition DJs Jamaica. It’s like a DJ guild in America, where they have chapters in different cities and they were promoting my music. I got to be friends with them and we started a chapter down here, which is actually a big deal because the Coalition breaks big artistes in America like Future,” he told the Jamaica Observer.

With the push from the entity, the official music video for Spoil You has over 180,000 views on YouTube.

King Jazzy explained that the track was aimed at creating light-heartedness in the dancehall space.

“We just wanted to make a raw dancehall track. We heard other people being successful with them and we were joking around and we kinda just came up with rhythm. It’s something that moves you. What I notice is dancehall is kinda losing its appeal to the international audience, and me being somebody who considers themselves Jamaican, I feel like I wanna do something to turn that around,” he said.

King Jazzy was born in the United States but spent much of his childhood in St Mary. He noted that he was exposed to music from a tender age.

“My father was a performer; he played the guitar and all that. My stepfather was a sound man when I was growing up so I spent my whole life around music ’cause we used to have to string up the sound and all that. I was always a musician. It’s in my blood [and] upbringing,” he said.

Some of his other tracks include Trap Betty Baby, Body Move, and Valentine.

King Jazzy further said he will be launching a compilation soon that is inspired by the success of Spoil You.

“We’re gonna release an EP or an album based around this single that we’re pushing right now and name it after the single. I have so much good music and I feel like people aren’t hearing it,” he said.
