Cops, civilians join forces to patch craters on Mandela Highway
ST CATHERINE, Jamaica – Amid concerns that potholes have caused several motor vehicle collisions along the westbound leg of the Mandela Highway, a special initiative was undertaken on Tuesday by a team of police officers and civilians to patch the craters.
Sergeant Lloyd Wellington, head of Traffic Accident Investigation at the Highway Patrol Division, led the charge alongside corporal Nicole Simpson, constable Jermaine Lewis, constable Norval Graham with the assistance of two civilians from the Ferry community in St Catherine.
Sergeant Wellington indicated that along the PJ Patterson entrance to Highway 2000, the tyres and rims of motor vehicles have been damaged because of the potholes.
“It has been there for a while and it has caused several accidents,” he said.
“We believed it was a necessary measure to source the asphaltic concrete to patch the craters in the road,” Simpson told the OBSERVER ONLINE.
The asphaltic concrete was donated by Asphalt Paving.
