Three motorcyclists killed in road crashes in week ending May 19 – RSU
Three motorcyclists were among four persons who perished in motor vehicle crashes during the seven-day period ending Friday, May 19 according to the latest statistics released by the Road Safety Unit (RSU).
The other victim was a female pedestrian.
Their deaths have brought to 157, the number of people who have been killed in 144 fatal motor vehicle crashes since the start of the year.
This represents an 11 per cent decrease in fatalities and a 14 per cent reduction in fatal crashes when compared with the corresponding period in 2022.
To date, pedestrians account for 25 per cent of the road users killed as of May 19, 2023.
The RSU is also reporting the following:
· Motorcyclists account for 25 per cent of the road users killed as of May 19.
· Private motor vehicle drivers account for 14 per cent of the fatalities.
· Private motor vehicle passengers account for six per cent of all road death so far this year.
· Vulnerable road users (pedestrians, pedal cyclists, motorcyclists and pillion riders) account for 66 per cent of the road users killed as of May 19.
· Passengers account for 21 per cent of all road users killed this year.
The RSU is also reporting that males and females account for 92 per cent and eight per cent respectively of the road fatalities as of May 19
