ST JAMES, Jamaica – The St James Parish Court on Wednesday offered no evidence against a man who was accused of assaulting the mother of his child.
Oshine Spence appeared before presiding parish judge Sasha-Marie Smith-Ashley, charged with assault occasioning bodily harm and unlawful wounding.
According to court documents, on February 26 at about 8:00 pm, the complainant was at a football match in Maroon Town, St James when she and Spence got into an argument.
During the dispute, Spence allegedly hit the complainant in her chest, causing her to fall to the ground. He then punched her in the face, causing pain, swelling, and bruises, as well as a wound to her upper lip.
After hearing the allegations, Judge Smith-Ashley asked the complainant if she wanted to try mediation, to which she consented.
The proceedings were temporarily postponed to allow the parties to engage in mediation with a probation officer who was present in the courtroom.
Following a rehearing of the matter, the court was informed that the parties had achieved an amicable settlement.
Pursuant to the mediation agreement, no evidence was offered against Spence.
