Scores of Jamaicans who arose early Saturday to watch the Reggae Girlz play against Panama at ‘The Summit’ erupted in wild celebration, as Allyson Swaby scored the only goal of the game of the match to give Jamaica it’s first ever World Cup win.

Patrons in attendance at the watch party noted that the goal scored was a testament to the skill and talent of the team.

“It proves that Jamaica is capable even without our star player, all our players are stars,” said one patron who was in attendance at the event.

“I was nervous because (Khadija) ‘Bunny’ Shaw had to sit this one out but it just goes to show that all the team’s players are skilled and talented and can hold their own,“ added another.

The win against the Panamanians means that the Reggae Girlz could qualify for the round of 16 if they beat Brazil in their final group match on Wednesday. It is a match up that many local football fans believe will ultimately result in victory for the Girlz, who will have the benefit of their star player and captain, Shaw.

Both Jamaica and France are on four points at the top of the group, followed by Brazil on three points. The Panamanians have been knocked out of the competition.
