Nkrumie, Reid head team to Pan-American U-20 Champs
National Under-20 100m record holders Bouwahjgie Nkrumie and Alana Reid were named in Jamaica’s 38-member team to the Pan-American Under-20 track and field championships set to be held in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, this weekend.
Twenty-four men and 14 women have been named in the team that was released by the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA) on Tuesday.
Nkrumie, who broke the national Under-20 100m record when he ran 9.99 seconds in the boys’ Class One final at the ISSA championships in March, has been named to contest the short sprint along with Jeevan Newby, while Javorne Dunkley and Nickoy Drummond will contest the 200m.
Delano Kennedy and Enrique Webster are set to contest the 400m while Barrain Smith and Rashid Bowen have been named for the 800m with Smith doubling up in the 1,500m.
Richard Hall and Daniel Beckford are down for the 110m hurdles with Jahreen Bell and Antonio Forbes set to go in the 400m hurdles.
Kobe Lawrence will contest both shot put and discus throw events and Royan Walters is down for the long/triple jump double; world Under-20 champion Brandon Pottinger will contest the high jump.
Demario Prince will also be in the long jump while Nathan Wade will accompany Walters in the triple jump; Ricardo Hayles will contest the shot put and Shaiquan Dunn the discus throw.
DeAndre Daley has been listed for both 4x100m and 4x400m relays while Jason Harris, Damor Miller and Dunkley were named for the sprint relays with Tarique Dacres, Jaheen Bell and Forbes to help make up the Mile Relay team.
Tonie-Ann Forbes will run the women’s 100m along with Reid; Mickaila Haisley and Lavanya Williams will contest the 200m with Dejanae Oakley and Oneika Brissett down for the 400m.
Kitania Headley is named for the 800m, Asharria Ulett for the 100m hurdles and Tonyan Beckford for the 400m hurdles.
Celine Riddle will contest both long and triple jumps with Celine-Jada Brown contesting the long jump as well and Abigail Martin the discus throw.
Williams, Haisley and Ulett have been named on the 4x100m relay team with Beckford, Shanque Williams, Sabrina Dockery and Headley down for the 4x400m relays.
