Reaching 200 winners is special for me — jockey Tevin Foster
TEVIN Foster won his 200th career race at Caymanas Park on Sunday, August 27, 2023 when he drove the Anthony Nunes-conditioned Hoist The Mast to victory in the first event on the 10-race card.
Travelling 5½ furlongs (1,100m) in the three-year-old and upwards Optional Claiming ($550,000-$450,000) spread, Hoist The Mast defeated competitors by all of 11 lengths in a time of 1:07.0.
“Riding 200 winners at Caymanas Park has me feeling very overwhelmed right now. It has taken a lot of hard work, patience, confidence, and dedication from me over the last five years to reach the milestone of 200 winners,” Foster said.
“I’ve been through a lot in the sport, there have been a lot of ups and downs so reaching this milestone is a very special moment for me.
“I just want to thank everyone for their encouragement, support, and advice over the years; this would not have been feasible without the help of the support crew. I’d also like to thank the fans,” Foster added.
Hoist The Mast quickly surrounded horses after leaving the gates to take up the running going into the half-mile (800m) turn. Hoist The Mast led A Seh Soup (Shamaree Muir), Noble Impulse (Anthony Allen), and One Like It (Dane Dawkins) approaching the distance.
Hoist The Mast, who is owned by Raymond Cameron, entered the lane with a healthy lead and kept her gallop well to the wire. One Like It finished in second place and Sudden Flight (Shane Richardson) came home in third place.
