Hallgrímsson hints at rotation for Haiti clash
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Reggae Boyz head coach Heimir Hallgrímsson says captain and goalkeeper Andre Blake could return when they face Haiti in the Concacaf Nations League on Tuesday.
Blake missed the previous game against Honduras on Friday because of what Hallgrímsson described as flu-like symptoms. Jahmali Waite played the game instead and contributed to a 1-0 win.
Hallgrímsson addressed the media in a press conference on Monday morning and was asked about Blake’s health.
“He trained yesterday, he’s training today,” Hallgrímsson said.
While Hallgrímsson would not give specific details about his squad, he hinted that there would be a number of changes to the one that beat Honduras. This includes striker Shamar Nicholson, who arrived in camp on Thursday and featured only as a second-half substitute against Honduras.
“Shamar could never play 90 minutes last game, so we wanted to give him a run-out,” Hallgrímsson said. “I think he is now, after flying the day before the game, in a better condition to play more now than 30 minutes or whatever he played last game, so he’s getting there.”
The game takes place at the National Stadium in Kingston and kicks off at 7:10 pm.
